2024 aluminum sheets are considered "aircraft" alloys because of their strength to weight ratio. It also has excellent fatigue resistance. While 2024 has good machinability it only possesses fair corrosion resistance. In the annealed state, aluminum 2024 has good workability but is only fair to poor in tempers. Typical end uses are aircraft skins and cowls and truck and aircraft structures.

Properties of 2024 Aluminum Sheet

Strength & Fatigue Resistance: Offers high strength-to-weight ratio and good fatigue resistance, ideal for aircraft structures and automotive components
Machinability: Exhibits good machinability, allowing for precise fabrication.
Corrosion Resistance: Relatively low; often supplied in Alclad form (thin layer of pure aluminum) to enhance corrosion resistance
Weldability: Not considered weldable through conventional methods; friction welding is possible

Common Tempers of 2024 Aluminum Sheet :
T3: Solution heat-treated, cold worked, and naturally aged.
O: Annealed (softest condition), offering high formability.
